Editors note

Branch magazine is a diverse and trendy online news source that is titled with a perennial name. One word, six letters, and yet it could be interpreted in many different ways. We chose branch as name because we felt as though our topics for the articles represent the branches of a tree and the city/community represents the body and trunk of the tree. When both are together they make up one entity that will continuously be connected. Our title is a metaphor for how news will always extend from our community.
The members that helped make thus project all have different topics- opioid crisis, teen pregnancy, under paid/ over worked nurses, and homelessness. All these issues are ongoing in our community and effect our everyday life. When you look at it deeper our topics relate, giving us a way to connect them together. Teens get pregnant and go to the hospital for birth and appointments causing them to need nurse assistance. Many people overdose on opioids or other drugs and need to go to the hospital for care causing them to need nurse assistance. Many of those out there that are homeless are on drugs and often need medical assistance.
As a team we decided our main objective would be creating a near professional website that gives “news” and “articles” in a proper way. We decided that this would be the best way to tie our essays and topics together. Collaboration and effort are the two main ways to meet our objective.
In efforts in improving our papers we peered reviewed by breaking into dyads. Allure and Whitney exchanged essays while Austen and Neico exchanged papers. Whitney is the Visual Editor for the magazine, but as a group we have been making decisions on template, theme, and layout. Since we are making a magazine, we decided it would make the most sense to add the essays under the genres as article. For example, the persuasion effect essays would be under the opinion tab or the information effect essays would be under the stories tab. The audience or reader would be able to choose a genre and topic of their interest in the genre.
For the layout of the magazine we tried to stick to stick to a simple yet professional look. We wanted something would easy for us to create but also easy to navigate through. We also used professional websites/magazines to give us a sort of inspiration on what our website should look like.
